Day 3: Chambersburg, PA

Today was another travel day. We traveled through 3 states today. We started off in Ohio, then we hit the edge of West Virginia, then into Pennsylvania. As we got closer to our hotel we started getting into the winding roads of the Appalachian Mountains, even managed to go through a few tunnels. We got to our hotel about an hour behind schedule and had to hop back on the bus right away to get to Gettysburg. The town of Gettysburg is a neat little town. We were gonna eat at a buffet, but that was full so McDonald's had to do. After we ate we picked up a tour guide and we started off into touring the battlefields. Today was the 148th anniversary for Pickett's Charge, which we got to stand on the exact location it happened. Here are some pictures from the battlefields:
An original house from the battle of Gettysburg.

From the top of Little Round Top.
Here is a little info. on Little Round Top: Little Round Top is the smaller of two rocky hills south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was the site of an unsuccessful assault by Confederate troops against the Union left flank on July 2, 1863, the second day of theBattle of Gettysburg.
Here is the statue of General Warren looking over the battlefield.

Sunset from Little Round Top: It is in the shape of a fish.

Here is where Pickett's Charge took place. This happened tonight
(July 3) 148 year ago. And of course the beautiful sunset.
Here is some information on Pickett's Charge: Pickett's Charge was an infantry assault ordered by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee against Maj. Gen. George G. Meade's Union positions on Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863, the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg during theAmerican Civil War. Its futility was predicted by the charge's commander, Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, and it was arguably an avoidable mistake from which the Southern war effort never fully recovered psychologically. The farthest point reached by the attack has been referred to as the high-water mark of the Confederacy.

Tomorrow we will arrive in NYC!!
